Challenge

Race2Dinner is an established organization with a solid national presence and reputation.

In 2020 the dinners that were the center piece of Race2Dinner’s programming were halted due to COVID.

While this was a serious challenge for the organization, they also saw the opportunity to grow beyond the in-person dinners.  They knew that creating a community and programming along with it was the next logical step.

Solution & Impact

THIS PROJECT IS IN PROGRESS.
STOP BACK FOR UPDATES!

Lisa Bond, Resident White Woman & Race2Community Facilitator, began her research and found Mighty Networks. Once she settled on a platform, she reached out to me and we began “talking2think” about the best way to use this platform for Race2Dinner’s constituencies.

Lisa has the graphics and design well in hand, so we are working on how to creatively use the platform to create:

  • Course spaces for
    • Race2Community
    • Race2SelfActualization
  • Affinity Spaces for
  • White Women, and
  • BIWOC
  • Offering accessible equity pricing

THIS PROJECT IS in the works right now!!  Stay tuned for updates.

A world free of white supremacy, caste, patriarchy, misogyny, all the isms, all the phobias and hate. A world where all of us human beings have value, dignity, respect and all we need to live how we choose.

Meredith Oppenheim and I jumped in to build an online community that would serve people who are 60 years old and “better”!

One of the tasks was to design TOPICS that would stand the test of time.

Meredith has grown her community from the ground up to more than 2,000 members.

Shatriece and I worked together to create a welcoming online community for her ideal clients.  I had the familiarity with the platform and Shatriece knew her clients – together we talked about how they would ultimately use the space to learn and connect.  The result was the Skyrise Community.

I shared with Shatriece the resources I had along with any tricks/workarounds and interesting ways to use the platform to best showcase her work.

Challenge

The challenge for this small non-profit was 2-fold.  They had a membership platform that was OK, but wasn’t intuitive.  And as they were researching other options, the COVID-19 pandemic hit.  So the Board was more motivated than ever to seek a way to:

  • manage memberships
  • create commuity
  • manager online events
  • host online courses

Solution & Impact

Working with the Board we have been moving current members and bringing in new members over the last 18 months.  In addition to attracting new members, we were able to reach constituencies that we hadn’t reached before – those that lived outside of the organizations’ geographic region.  And we provided a place for local business to connect and as one member said, “changed her stars.”

We are continuing to grow the Member Networkby creating new types of memberships that engage former board members, former members that no longer live in the state and offer opportunities for our members to show off their “zones of genius” by providing a place to teach and to lead.

My Role

  • Visual Design
  • Ideation
  • Implementation

As a former Board member I have taken the building of the Network under my wing and I am continuing to assist with growing the Network.  Along with the design of the network, I am working on creating onboarding plans, succession plans and creating volunteer position descriptions so that we can maintain the Network as an all volunteer organization.

“What came through loud and clear,” says Gina Bianchini, founder and CEO of Mighty Networks, “is that creators are not ever going to leave social media. …  They are putting ownership front and center.”
