Meet Lisa (she/hers) šŸ’ƒ Change Your Badge

Lisa Townsend

Iā€™m forever curious and love aĀ plan! I live in the UK, Cornwall. Dog lover, Mum Introvert & Feminist. Iā€™m looking to grow one conversation at a time.

My Mojo!

I spend a lot of my time asking questions to find out more about other people so I thought it might be fun to do it for myself! Here goesā€¦ā€¦.

How would you define your mojo?

Mojo for me is being comfortable in my own skin and having the confidence to stick to my own lane. Itā€™s so easy to get distracted by everything! What other people are doing and how they are doing it. My mojo is linked to my ability to visualise what I want and work towards it. Itā€™s part of how I learn new things, deepen my self-awareness and frame my mistakes. Itā€™s at the core of how I enjoy life and how I interact with the world around me. Itā€™s openness, freedom and flexibility.

Have you always had mojo?

Yes and no! Everything I ever needed was always there but I had huge self-doubt and that became what I focused on. Always on the problem and what I was lacking.

I also think that being an Introvert affected how comfortable I was expressing my mojoā€¦

I also think that being an Introvert affected how comfortable I was expressing my mojo, I assumed it had to be done in an extroverted way and that was terrifying. I spent alot of time working on how I looked to others on the outside, trying to make myself fit what I thought they wanted to see. Nowadays Iā€™ve learnt that mojo is an inside out kind of deal. Itā€™s how I live and move through my life thatā€™s important to my mojo.

If your mojo was a colour/animal/place what would it be?

ColourĀ orangey-red

AnimalĀ ā€“ Eagle

PlaceĀ ā€“ A wide, open green space with an amazing view!

What does your mojo help you to do?

Everything! It helps me to make things happen, care for others, grow and learn, parent, be happy, make decisions, deal with challenges ā€“ itā€™s an absolute anchor point for me, a touchstone to come back to whenever I feel lost or without direction. I feel like it represents the very best of me, itā€™s more to do with a sense than a knowledge. I know itā€™s got my through 2020! Over the last year Iā€™ve coped with my husbandā€™s mental breakdown and the near collapse of our marriage, cared for my daughters, put plans in place to secure our financial future, kept my business going and negotiated the implications of COIVD and lockdown. A year on we are healthy, happy and enjoying living in the moment. There is no way I could have coped without my mojo ā€“ itā€™s helped me process the emotion and the overwhelm and help me find out what living my values feels like.

Is your mojo around all the time?

Yes but I donā€™t always pay attention to it. Self-doubt, perfectionism, people pleasing and the underlying sense that Iā€™m never doing enough always lurks in the periphery. That means I have lots of rituals and habits to help feed and maintain my mojo. Starting the day with movement, going outside everyday, taking regular breaks, journalling, Mindfulness. The ones I have added this last year are a commitment to being sober and planning in ā€˜lifeā€™ before work, otherwise everything becomes work!

When do you feel your mojo most?

When Iā€™m writing from the heart, hanging out with my family, in quiet reflection time, when Iā€™m planning, outside walking my dog in the rain, when Iā€™m belly laughing and everyday when I put on a pair of earrings ā€“ I have a collection of them and each day I choose a pair which reflects how I want to my day to be.

If you had to describe your mojo in 5 words what would you choose?

Grounded Ā ā€¢ Ā Compassionate ā€¢ Loving ā€¢ Fun ā€¢ Curious.

How I Got My Groove Back

A conversation with myself.

Dear Self,

Whatā€™s going on? You used to be fun and light-hearted. You loved life. You loved what you ā€œdidā€. You were positive ā€¦ optimistic ā€¦ strong ā€¦ independent ā€¦ quirky. Ā YES, quirky. Thatā€™s what I liked most about you. Ā You were just you. Itā€™s like someone snuffed the light out on your enthusiasm. Ā I want to know whatā€™s wrong.

Concerned,
Me

Hello Me,

Thanks for noticing. Youā€™re right. Iā€™m not myself these days. Iā€™ve lost my oomph, my zest, my mojo, my groove, my joy. Ā Itā€™s scary. Remember that book I wrote? G Factor? I feel like I donā€™t have any G Factor ā€“ like all my gravitational pull is gone. I just donā€™t feel like myself, and frankly, I miss myself. A lot. I donā€™t know what is wrong with me.

Confused,

Self

Dear Self,

Wow friend! I knew something was off, but I obviously wasnā€™t paying attention. I was so busy in my day-to-day stuff that I didnā€™t make time to ask or listen to you. I should have done something to help. What do you need?

Sorry,
Me

Hello Me,

What do I need? The answer is, I donā€™t know. Itā€™s weird. Ā I feel sad all the time. I find myself thinking,Ā ā€œI have everything Iā€™ve always wanted in life. I have a beautiful life. A wonderful husband. Wonderful kids. A lovely home. A successful business. Great friends. I travel. Yet, I donā€™t feel joy.ā€Ā And on the occasions Iā€™m not sad, Iā€™m angry. I donā€™t know why Iā€™m angry; Iā€™m just angry. I mean, really, who would want to be around me right now!?! I donā€™t even want to be around me.

Lost,

Self

Dear Self,

First, youā€™re stuck with me. Iā€™m not going anywhere. Second, I have to say, itā€™s strange that you recognize you have everything you have always wanted, yet, you donā€™t feel joy. Ā There must be something missing. Whatā€™s missing? What if you start there?

Curious,
Me

Hello Me,

Thanks for the suggestion. Iā€™ve done some thinking. Do you remember when our faith carried us through difficulty? When we asked God for the answers? I think Iā€™ve been depending on myself and itā€™s obviously not working. Maybe I need to refocus.

Refocusing,

Self

Dear Self,

Yes! I do remember that. I remember when we lived by the phrase ā€œLet go. Let God.ā€ We worried so much less. Aaaah. Those were beautiful times. Iā€™m so glad you are refocusing ā€“ thanks for the reminder.

Refocusing too,
Me

Hello Me,

Iā€™m feeling better these days and am working on my faith. But, Iā€™m still struggling. I canā€™t sleep. Iā€™m hyperemotional. Laughing one minute, crying the next. I canā€™t seem to remember things. My body is cool one minute and a raging fire the next. Oh, and no amount of eating better and working out seems to make a difference when I step on the scale.

Ugh,

Self

Dear Self,

I know what you mean. Iā€™m moody and wake up in a flop sweat many nights. Gross! And the brain fog! I go through much of my day in a haze. Iā€™ve done some research. Are we at that ā€œtime of our life?ā€

Wondering,
Me

Dear Me,

Maybe.

Wondering too,

Self

Dear Self,

Arenā€™t there doctors who specialize in this?
Making an appointment,

Me

Dear Me,

Great news! I made an appointment too. There is a new G Factor in town and itā€™s called GROOVE! Ā Turns out all I needed was little more estrogen and a little less testosterone thanks to menopause. Hallelujah! Iā€™m back!

Celebrating,

Self

Dear Self,

Itā€™s so good to have you back! Now, letā€™s do this!

Love,
Me

More about Grace

Grace is the 2nd child of a solo parenting Mum. She and her 4 siblings grew up putting on Ā skit-like shows for the neighborhood parents each summer. But, despite this regular foray in front of people, she chose for most of her young years and adult life to remain hidden in the shadows. That is until she found her voice and realized she could use that voice for good.

Her work up until 3 yrs ago had been as an art quilter and, later, as a bookbinder. Then she took a pivot to become a Life Coach.

Grace loves the work she does to help women find out who they are at their deepest core level and works to help them reframe the thoughts they have about themselves so show they can show up as the badass business women theyā€™re meant to be, to do the work theyā€™re called to doā€¦.and change the world. Three things lie at the core of her beliefs that fuel her life todayā€¦

LIGHTĀ ā€“ shining it on our most shadowy parts and using what we find to help guide our way forward.

TRUTHĀ ā€“ choosing to live the full breadth and width of who we are so we donā€™t deny our true identity and are able to speak and take action from that place.

JOYĀ ā€“ finding the little ā€œpockets of JOYā€ that exist everywhere, but only if weā€™re looking.

Grace thoroughly embraces her quirky-fun loving-dancing in the kitchen side, enjoys her roll as a JOY Ambassador to her kids, friends and anyone else who comes in contact with her andā€¦.will forever love the colour RED. She is almost an empty nester who currently resides in Portland, Oregon, a place that she lovingly calls her heart city.

Former Wall Street. Accountant. Birth Doula.
Flamenco Dancer. Debt-Destroying CFO of her own family of four.

DOG DAYS.
Since weā€™re all home ā€“ Iā€™m working from home full time. My Kids are schooling from home full time, my husbandā€™s working from home full time, I have caved to my familyā€™s request to get a dog.

However, leave it to me to do it in a way that doesnā€™t cost anything. Weā€™ve volunteered to be dog foster familyĀ for with the rescue agency.Ā Fostering is interesting to me that it changes the way that my family interacts with one another. Itā€™s beautiful for me to see the the light shine From my family members in interacting with another being. I think of it as my love language.

My ā€œacts of serviceā€ love language I found coming out when I sprained my ankle and couldnā€™t do any darn thing for myself. My family really stepped in to help me out that made me see helped me really experience my family as loving me.

And with the dogs, I can see them creating this love for others, right? So theyā€™re doing service for this for animal. Theyā€™re taking them for a walk or giving them a bath or feeding them or brushing them. And it looks to me like love. Weā€™re coordinating together.
ā€œYou do the dishes while I walk the dogā€ or ā€œLetā€™s work together in the kitchen so we can go for a family walkā€.

And it feels like love.

Meet Wendy Blomseth

ā€œI am in my groove in my ā€˜Photography Zone.ā€™ I can make time stand still. Thereā€™s nothingĀ except being in the moment.ā€

In a Pause, Ready for a Flip

Anyone remember 33 1/3 Ā rpm record albums? Ā Remember that each album had about six songs on it with grooves for space in between songs?

I think Iā€™ve lived through those six songs on side one already and Iā€™ve paused for a time in the spaces in between. Ā Wherever I was, however, I was leaning into the light, to ā€œmy peopleā€ and to the beautiful moments that simply had to be photographed. Ā They could not be passed by or I would be left with an eternal yearning for what might have been.

Creatively, I am at my happiest and in my groove when in my photography zone. Ā I can make time stand still when Iā€™m ā€œseeing the lightā€ in the person and my subjects. Ā There is nothing that is happening except being in the moment focused on creating beautiful images. Ā Iā€™ve created four milestone bodies of photography work and captured 1,000ā€™s of random images created in the moment.

Professionally, Iā€™ve always been known as ā€œthe connector.ā€ Ā In a recent personal development workshop, my newly crafted ā€œI AMā€ exercise birthed the statement

ā€œI AM connecting people together with love, kindness, creativity, success and joy.ā€

I do this as an affiliate with Send Out Cards and youā€™ll see my photography on those cards as well.

Right now, like the rest of the world, Iā€™m in ā€œThe Pause.ā€ Ā I treasure some moments at home where I can find breath, calm, peace and safety, and yet I yearn for connection, laughing and hugging my people and traveling to discover magical moments to photograph. Ā Iā€™m slowly experiencing the benefits of in-home exercise and may have finally slowed down enough to enjoy yoga (flashback to high impact aerobics in the 80ā€™s).

Iā€˜m digging into my groove at home, breathing through the times of fear and anxiety, and dreaming of the days ahead when I can flip this album and start a new series of songs that sing a happier tune.

ā€œOMG. this song gets me up and dancing every time. Ā  Summertime has been recorded dozens of times and theyā€™re all good but this one is on my favorite list. ā€“Ā Wendy
