Learning to call a block a block.
“One of the most important tasks in artistic recovery is learning to call things by the right names… [when we can’t create we call ourselves lazy] That is not merely inaccurate. It is cruel… Blocked artists are not lazy. They are blocked.” Julia Cameron, Artist’s Way Every Day
And a block can be removed.
We have the ability to change our minds. Literally. And we have the further ability to decide how we are going to move through our day. Try this:
- When you wake up, be quiet, silent for a time and identify the feeling that is prevalent. (tired, frustrated, afraid) Is it the feeling you want for the rest of the day?
- No? Then decide what feeling you’re going to replace it with. (energized, inspired, fearless)
- Step into that feeling and BE with it. Again, stillness and listening are the keys.
Martha Beck says in her new book FINDING YOUR WAY IN A WILD NEW WORLD
“…when “the water goes up,” letting us bob to the surface for air, are the periods of rest …for stillness, receiving, being.”
Own It.
Remember, your mind doesn’t know the difference between what is real and what you envision (just try imagining sucking on a lemon slice – I dare your mouth not to water!)
So now that you’ve decided what feeling you will take with you today, get on with it!
Go. Create. Whatever that means for you. Today is the beginning of what will be an amazing year. I can feel it!
